​Low back pain is an extremely common presentation seen among the working population. This discussion will describe a systematic evidence-based approach for the diagnosis and treatment of this disorder. National peer-reviewed clinical guidelines specific to the treatment of workers compensation back injuries will be reviewed. The appropriate diagnostic evaluation and therapeutic management will be described in detail. Proper management of these common injuries leads to faster functional restoration of the injured worker while minimizing workers compensation costs. The critical importance of drafting specific transitional work restrictions for these injured workers will be illustrated. The employer uses the clinician’s work restrictions to design modified work duties. Attendees will appreciate the unique differences in caring for workers compensation low back injuries.
