Victims are more likely to present to an Emergency Medicine or Urgent Care provider than a Primary Care Provider (PCP).
Twenty-eight percent (or more!) of survivors of human trafficking saw a medical provider at least once while enslaved but were not identified at the time. Victims are more likely to present to an Emergency Medicine or Urgent Care provider than a Primary Care Provider (PCP). Even if a patient is recognized as a potential victim, most providers don’t know how to respond. In this presentation, we will review what human trafficking is, how to recognize victims, and what you can do right now to help.
