The Urgent Care College of Physicians (UCCOP) has reached a significant milestone by being accepted into the Specialty and Service Society (SSS) of the American Medical Association (AMA). This prestigious recognition underscores the vital role of Urgent Care in the broader healthcare ecosystem. Membership in the SSS allows UCCOP to advocate for policies that enhance the quality and accessibility of Urgent Care services nationwide.
Joining the SSS means Urgent Care now has a stronger voice in shaping the future of healthcare. The inclusion highlights the growing recognition of Urgent Care medicine as a specialty and provides UCCOP members with new opportunities to collaborate with other specialties. Lindsey Fish, MD, a CUCM and UCCOP board member and active participant on the Urgent Care as a Specialty Committee, will serve as UCCOP’s first representative to the SSS.
Urgent Updates are curated highlights of guidelines, reviewed by (and some directly coming from) Urgent Care clinicians. These highlights represent the actual intent of these articles and how they relate to the practice of Urgent Care medicine.
Infectious disease complaints represent 15-20 percent of visits to practitioners or well over 100 million visits per year in the U.S. A large number of these visits are associated with a subsequent prescription, with rates of overprescribing of antibiotics at approximately 50 percent for respiratory conditions and over 25 percent for other syndromes. In this webinar, we will present common case scenarios, share targeted insights on the epidemiology of these syndromes and illustrate how multiplex PCR (polymerase chain reaction) with next-morning results can enhance diagnostic precision, treatment accuracy and patient satisfaction.
