UCA/CUCM Position on the Read & Interpretation of X-ray Images

Rendering an interpretation of an x-ray image, preliminary or final, is dependent on the skill, training, and experience of the licensed provider. It is incumbent on each organization’s medical leadership to oversee clinical quality and the competency of its providers for all skills, including the interpretation of x-ray images. Each organization should determine which images are required to be over-read by a radiologist. A dual read and interpretation by another physician or radiologist is considered an industry best practice.

Licensed providers in urgent care medicine include physicians, physician assistants /associates and nurse practitioners.
