Insights from the 2024 Urgent Care Convention

Members Recharged in Vegas

The theme of the 2024 Urgent Care Convention was Recharge, and attendees did just that, all while connecting with over 1,000 industry professionals and vendors.

There was a lot to learn, great solutions to be found in the Expo (along with fun and games, and massages) and various interactive sessions.

The Urgent Care Foundation Celebration, the fundraising event of the Urgent Care Convention, raised $83,000 for original research and special initiatives and raising awareness for Urgent Care (thank you, donors)!

We look forward to meeting again at this invaluable industry intersection next year and would like to hear about your Convention experience, so please take our survey below.

Urgent Care Case Study: Reducing ED Overcrowding Through Diversion Initiative

Redirecting Non-Emergent Cases to Urgent Care Facilities

ED overcrowding is a significant challenge faced by healthcare systems globally, leading to increased wait times, patient dissatisfaction, and compromised quality of care. Studies indicate that a considerable portion of ED visits, up to 40 percent, are for lower acuity conditions that could be managed in an outpatient setting such as primary care or Urgent Care centers. These visits often include respiratory infections, common illnesses and minor procedures such as suture removals, IV therapy, and wound care, which do not necessarily require the resources of an emergency department.

A member organization of the Urgent Care Association (UCA) recognized the need to address ED overcrowding while improving patient access to appropriate care settings. This organization designed and implemented a comprehensive ED diversion program aimed at redirecting non-emergent cases to Urgent Care facilities.

Providence to Pay $200M in Wage Violations

According to an article published yesterday by MedCity News, the health system has been ordered to pay more than $200 million to employees in a class-auction complaint, “alleging that it had been withholding their wages by denying them breaks and rounding down their work hours.”
