Vision for the Future of Urgent Care and Core Purpose for UCA for the next 3-5 Years:
My vision for the next five years is to continue striving for the goal of Urgent Care to be recognized as an independent medical specialty. This is essential to strengthening our standing with other specialties, securing fair reimbursement, and defining our own standards of training, scope, and quality. By clearly articulating who we are and what we do, we can reverse the trend of acuity degradation and reaffirm urgent care’s core purpose: delivering high‑quality, on‑demand acute care that reduces emergency department overcrowding and fills the access gaps left by primary care. I feel that UCA must lead this effort to protect, elevate, and sustain the future of our specialty.
Brief Biography:
I have practiced Urgent Care Medicine for more than 18 years, following a long and rewarding career in emergency medicine. My clinical experience spans the full spectrum of urgent care delivery—from single owner‑operator centers to university‑affiliated and hospital‑based systems. I currently practice in Central Florida, where I provide direct patient care and precept family medicine residents in Urgent Care Medicine.
I joined the Urgent Care Association in 2011. After attending my first conference and engaging with several board members, I realized I could make meaningful contributions to the organization and the specialty. I was appointed to the College board, where I helped develop multiple programs that strengthened its structure and value; I ultimately completed my term as Vice President. I continue to serve as Editor‑in‑Chief of Urgent Caring, am Chair of the Fellowship Committee, and remain an active member of the Clinical Response Committee. As a former Chair of the Clinical Advisory Group, I led a team of thought leaders in identifying high‑impact initiatives for UCA and the College.
During my first term on the UCA Board, we successfully navigated the transition to a new CEO and supported advocacy efforts to improve CMS reimbursement. The challenges ahead will require experienced and committed leaders who understand both the clinical realities and the strategic needs of our specialty, as well as the history and nuances of the Urgent Care Association. I believe I bring that combination of experience, perspective, and dedication. It would be an honor to continue serving on the Urgent Care Association Board.
