Knowledge, Testing Behaviors, and Care Experiences Related to STIs and UTIs

HealthTrack’s survey of over 1,000 Americans found that gaps in symptom awareness, privacy concerns, and delayed care contribute to missed or late diagnoses of STIs and UTIs. Many individuals postpone testing due to mild symptoms or stigma, and 1 in 10 are unaware that STIs can be asymptomatic. The data also shows that treatment without lab testing leads to worse outcomes, with significantly higher rates of persistent symptoms and repeat visits. Overall, the findings highlight the importance of timely, accurate diagnostic testing to improve patient outcomes, reduce unnecessary care, and support better decision-making.
