Vision for the Future of Urgent Care and Core Purpose for UCA for the next 3-5 Years:
Urgent care needs to continue to integrate into the health care system. We have created a new gateway to health care by providing accessible primary care and urgent care services that bridge the gap between traditional primary care and the Emergency Room. We need to continue to push for recognition of these services with not only from CMS but with insurance carriers. This needs to include not only improved reimbursement for services provided but more effective rules and regulations surrounding the use of urgent care services.Â
Brief Biography:
I joined AFC in 1992 as Chief Operating Officer. In 2005 and I was promoted to President and in 2023 I accepted the position of Chief Executive Officer which I held until my retirement in January 2025. During my tenure at AFC, I have had an integral role in all areas of operations as well as expansion through both de novo growth and acquisitions. This includes the acquisition of Doctors Express, an urgent care franchise system in 2013. AFC now has over 400 locations.
Prior to joining AFC, I worked for Southern Medical Health Systems in Mobile, Alabama where I served as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Health Services Division, which included physician offices, outpatient rehabilitation clinics, outpatient surgery centers and prison health care.  Â
I believe my experience in health care in general and, specifically, urgent care can be a valuable resource to the members of UCA as we develop a long-term strategy for urgent care and our place in the health care continuum. Â
