Vision for the Future of Urgent Care and Core Purpose for UCA for the next 3-5 Years:
Urgent care is everyday healthcare—and it has never been more essential. With 80% of Americans living within 10 minutes of a center, and consumer awareness at an all-time high, urgent care has a unique opportunity to reshape how our nation accesses affordable, timely care. As the cost of healthcare approaches 20% of U.S. GDP, urgent care offers a powerful alternative: high-quality care at a fraction of the cost of emergency departments. In fact, nearly one-third of ED visits could be treated in urgent care settings, yet fewer than 1% of urgent care patients require transfer to the ED. At the same time, American life expectancy has been declining since 2021—driven in part by COVID-19, but also by persistent challenges in cost and access. For urgent care to fully realize its potential in reversing these trends, operators must be equipped with tools to grow sustainably and remain financially viable. The Urgent Care Association plays a critical role in this future—by advocating for greater government and consumer awareness, aligning actionable data to demonstrate our impact, and creating forums that empower urgent care leaders to expand access and improve outcomes across the country.
