The College’s Clinical Response Committee (CRC) recently had the opportunity to meet with representatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to discuss Ebola preparedness and response considerations.
The outreach itself is significant. The CDC’s decision to engage the CRC underscores the vital role Urgent Care plays in the nation’s healthcare system and recognizes the expertise of CUCM members in responding to emerging public health concerns. Ensuring that Urgent Care perspectives are included in these conversations helps strengthen preparedness efforts across the broader healthcare landscape.

The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Nurse Practitioner Certification Board (NPCB) has approved the College of Urgent Care Medicine’s petition to begin develop on the first Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner program.
This is a huge step forward in establishing Urgent Care as a recognized medical specialty and ensuring clinicians practicing in this unique environment have a pathway to demonstrate advanced knowledge and expertise.
The work toward developing the certification process and examination will this fall in Las Vegas, where Vice President of CUCM, Lisa Bishop, Lisa H. Bishop, DNP, MHA, MSN, FNP-BC, FCUCM, will represent.
Hitting milestones like this does not happen overnight. Thank you to all involved in this effort over the last couple of years.
