The Safety and Efficacy of Intravenous Ibuprofen in Older Patients: A Retrospective Subgroup Analysis
A retrospective subgroup analysis examined the safety and efficacy of intravenous ibuprofen (IVIB) in older patients undergoing surgery. The study found that administering 400 mg or 800 mg of IVIB intermittently within 24 hours postoperatively significantly reduced morphine consumption and alleviated pain compared to placebo. Importantly, the incidence of adverse events was similar across all groups, with most events being mild, indicating that IVIB is well-tolerated in the older population. These findings support the use of IVIB as a safe and effective component of multimodal pain management in older surgical patients. Full Access: Clinical Therapeutics
