CDC Releases Guidance for Preventing Spread of Infections in Schools to Keep Children Healthy and Learning

CDC released guidance for preventing the spread of infections in K-12 schools. The guidance includes everyday actions that schools can take to prevent and control the spread of respiratory and stomach viruses, such as influenza and norovirus, and bacterial illness, such as strep throat. Pediatric Dermatologists Outperform Artificial Intelligence; ChatGPT Demonstrates Comparability in Some Aspects

In the study, published in Pediatric Dermatology researchers found that on average, pediatric dermatologists predominantly outperformed AITs in multiple-choice, multiple-answer, and case-based questions. However, results of the study also demonstrated that ChatGPT, specifically version 4.0, often exhibited comparability in some aspects, including in multiple-choice and multiple-answer questions. Genital VZV in a Third Trimester Pregnancy and the Critical Role of Interdisciplinary Planning.

The presence of a genital lesion or labial swelling during pregnancy warrants workup for VZV, particularly among patients known to be varicella nonimmune. If genital VZV is diagnosed during pregnancy, the development of contingency plans through interdisciplinary collaboration should be pursued to ensure a safe delivery and postpartum course for both the maternal-fetal dyad as well as other patients on the unit and the provider care team. Use of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems and Age of Asthma Onset Among US Adults and Youths

In this cohort study of 7766 adults and 17,023 youths, past 30-day electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) use among adults was associated with earlier ages of asthma onset. These findings suggest that prevention and cessation programs directed to adults who use ENDS are needed to educate the public, protect public health, prevent adverse health outcomes, and motivate users to stop. Furthermore, modifying symptom-screening asthma guidelines, resulting in earlier asthma detection and treatment, may reduce morbidity and mortality due to asthma. Full Access: JAMA
