Connecting with your local representative is essential for effective representation of your center(s) and Urgent Care as whole. The work we do now will help us for years down the road.
1. Attend Town Hall Meetings: Engage directly with your representative at town hall meetings to discuss community issues and voice your concerns in a public forum.
2. Schedule a Personal Meeting: Arrange a meeting with your representative to discuss specific issues that matter to you. Contact their office to schedule a convenient time for both parties.
3. Write a Personalized Letter or Email: Craft a personalized letter or email expressing your thoughts and concerns. Be specific about the issues you want to address and request a response from your representative.
4. Connect via Social Media Direct Messages: Reach out to your representative through direct messages on social media platforms. Express your views and ask for a dialogue on matters of importance.
5. Attend Office Hours: Many representatives hold regular office hours where constituents can drop in to discuss issues. Take advantage of these opportunities to have a face-to-face conversation with your representative.
6. Grab a Coffee or Lunch: Invite your representative to grab a coffee or lunch to discuss local issues in a more casual setting. This informal setting allows for a relaxed conversation and fosters a deeper connection.
7. Participate in Virtual Office Hours: Inquire about virtual office hours where you can connect with your representative online through video conferencing or phone calls. This option provides flexibility and convenience for both parties.
8. Join a Small Group Meeting or Roundtable Discussion: Look for opportunities to participate in small group meetings or roundtable discussions hosted by your representative. These intimate settings allow for meaningful dialogue and engagement.
9. Attend Community Events Together: Attend local community events together with your representative. Whether it’s a neighborhood cleanup, charity fundraiser, or cultural festival, these events provide opportunities for informal interactions and relationship building.
10. Volunteer for Their Office or Campaign: Volunteer for your representative’s office or political campaign to get involved on a more personal level. This hands-on experience allows you to build rapport with the representative and their team while contributing to their efforts.

Patrick O’Malley, MD recaps the events that occurred on May 2, now known as Urgent Care Appreciation Day in South Carolina:
“Fortunately, over the past few years with my work on the Board of Directors for the College of Urgent Care medicine (CUCM) and EB Medicine, I have been able to make a lot of local connections. I quickly sent an email to everyone I knew working in Urgent Care in South Carolina. My wife quickly put an ‘Evite’ together, we sent it out and the response was tremendous!
“If we can do this, you certainly can too. As healthcare workers we have to make phone calls asking people to do things they don’t want to do all the time. We have to break bad news and have really uncomfortable discussions every day. Asking a lawmaker to have coffee or lunch and discuss these issues is nothing compared to that! I challenge each and every one of you reading this to make that call. Send that email. Have that cup of coffee. You will be surprised how quickly things may come together.”

Is your Urgent Care clinic interested in improving appropriate antibiotic prescribing in telemedicine? The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is currently recruiting Urgent Care clinics for a no-cost, 18-month program beginning in June 2024 to promote appropriate antibiotic use.
Clinics will receive training and one-on-one expert coaching to improve the diagnosis and treatment of infectious syndromes for patients seen via telemedicine, including best-evidence guidance and workflow efficiencies. Participating clinicians will also be eligible for continuing education units (CEUs), continuing medical education (CME) credits, and American Board of Internal Medicine maintenance of certification (MOC) points. Urgent Updates are highlights of guidelines from other groups, reviewed by Urgent Care physicians. These highlights represent the actual intent of these articles and how they relate to the practice of Urgent Care medicine.
Getting paid for occupational medicine services is a lot different than collecting for regular urgent care visits. By refining their SOPs and implementing innovative technology, American Family Care (AFC) modernized how they collect for occ med services. Since implementing, AFC now collects at a higher rate, much faster, and with improved client experience. Join AFC’s VP of RCM, Scott Crawford, and Cowork Health’s Co-Founder, Dusty Schroeder to see how they did it.
