When providing occupational medicine services for employees it is not unusual to encounter a biologic exposure problem.

Full Description

When providing occupational medicine services for employees it is not unusual to encounter a biologic exposure problem. Urgent care clinicians may evaluate employees from other clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, and dental offices who may have been exposed to infectious agents. Although we are making great progress in the control of communicable diseases, these exposures still commonly occur. Exposed individuals may be very anxious about the possible disease consequences. Thus, urgent care clinicians should be familiar with the appropriate evaluation and management protocols for employees exposed to these common infections still seen among the working population. Three of the most common infectious conditions still routinely encountered will be covered in detail: pertussis, tuberculosis, and meningococcal meningitis. Contact investigation, chemoprophylaxis, immunization, and testing will be described for each disease.
