As people travel more there is a higher risk of exposure and spread of emerging infectious illnesses.
The travel industry has exploded 250% over the last 10 years and people are traveling more than ever before. As people travel more there is a higher risk of exposure and spread of emerging infectious illnesses; potential environmental syndromes; and noninfectious travel-related complications. The medical provider is challenged with these patients presenting to your Urgent Care Center more frequently today. The UCC is usually the initial evaluation facility for post-travel illnesses and the need to recognize the unique encounters improves patient care outcomes. This presentation will help you recognize the signs and symptoms of common post-travel illnesses, know the investigative questions to ask, discuss management/treatment protocols, and prevention directives for traveling patients.
