CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION (CME)

Mission

We strive to provide continuing medical education (CME) activities designed specifically for the Urgent Care setting.    

Our content will include material applicable to the Urgent Care setting, and our formats will recognize the education access challenges of Urgent Care clinicians.    

Expected Results 

Our goal is the continuous development of the practice of Urgent Care medicine. This results in the elevation of clinician competence in clinical and practice management skills and provides practical application to perform this work in the Urgent Care setting. Thereby, patient outcomes are improved.

Continuing Medical Education (CME) defined by the ACCME

Continuing medical education consists of educational activities which serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships that a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public, or the profession.  

The content of CME is that body of knowledge and skills generally recognized and accepted by the profession as within the basic medical sciences, the discipline of clinical medicine, and the provision of health care to the public.

CME Passport is a free, centralized web application that enables physicians to view, track, and generate transcripts of their reported CME credit.

• CME Passport displays any current or future activities that accredited providers choose to include.

• Physicians can quickly search by activity format, date, types of credit offered, topic, location, keyword, specialty, and other details.  

• Personalized accounts: Physicians can create a personalized account, enabling them to view their reported CME and MOC credits and generate transcripts for their state medical licensing board, employer, or credentialing body.

1. CME Activity Planning Process
2. To begin the planning process, fill out an Activity Planning Form. 
3. An Accreditation and Designation Statement of CME offered for the activity is issued.
4. The activity is then entered into the ACCME Pars System.
5. Issue a Call for Speakers/contributors or invite pre-determined speakers/contributors.
6. Create a task list for speakers/contributors.
7. Collect key stakeholder information for tracking purposes to ensure all documents are collected using the CME Contributor Tracking Form. Activity stakeholders include but are not limited to: planners, speakers, contributors, author, and committee members.
8. Collect financial relationship information from all persons involved in the planning and delivery of the CME activity, using the Disclosure Form.
9. Mitigate the financial relationship, if necessary, with this Mitigation Form. 
10. Collect content for the activity.
11. Content is peer reviewed, use this Peer Review Form.
12. Review promotional materials.
13. Notification to activity participants of speakers with disclosures. Note: Disclosures are only needed for those relationships that have financial relationships to disclose.
14. Execute the activity.
15. Collect learner feedback through the Claiming CME Form. Note: Activity will be added to appropriate forms.
16. Award CME certificate to learner, after validation of claim. 
17. Summarize learner feedback and address gaps identified for use in planning future activities.
18. Report activity and learner information to ACCME, using the ACCME Pars System.
19. Close the activity in the ACCME Pars System.
20. Complete Annual Reporting for ACCME in the ACCME Pars System.
